Air Hostess training institutes an integral part of aviation industry as well as Indian Aviation Sector is growing fast. They are facing a peculiar problem – a critical shortage of skilled people to run highly complex aviation business. The Indian airline sector is experiencing a shortage of talent to work as air hostess, flight attendants and overall cabin crew. Most of Indian airlines are hiring pilots from abroad and are even planning to hire air hostesses and flight attendants from abroad as flying training cost in India still remains very high. Air Hostess training or Cabin crew finishing schools are mushrooming, but training quality remains a concern because demand is rushing training.
New airline entrants are poaching Air Hostesses from existing airlines, and retention is becoming a problem. It is not just pilots or air hostesses or flight attendants or cabin crew, even ex-pat management attrition is an issue. For the Air Hostess training industry and airline industry as a whole it is a good thing that India’s low cost carrier growth is being encouraged. The airlines are bound to face air hostess or crew shortages. Cockpit crews are like gold, for now. India cannot produce enough air hostess or crews to take up flight attendant jobs corresponding with aircraft orders placed. In the US, airlines typically have 14 pilots and 22 flight attendants per plane. India needs thousands of pilots, air hostesses, flight attendants and other cabin crew for the hundreds of planes on order.
With domestic air travel forecast to grow by 25 percent a year for the next five years, the Indian aviation market is booming, and carriers, the government, Air Hostess training industry and aircraft manufacturers are working overtime to keep up with demand. The domestic passenger traffic during ‘05-06 was about 28% over last year, a strong growth by any standards. Aircraft movements during the year were up by 17%. Passenger traffic in the domestic airports increased by 22.3 per cent to 59.54 million, while aircraft movement increased by 14.2 percent. This all points to one fact that Indian Aviation sector needs back up infrastructure support one of which is the Air Hostess training facility so that the airlines can recruit trained hands to take up the highly demanding Air Hostess jobs.
